SST572 - Burton-upon-Trent EUS Report.pdf
A report on the historic character assessment for Burton-upon-Trent, one of 23 towns covered by the Staffordshire Extensive Urban Survey project.
The project reports for the towns are divided into two sections. Section one covers the location and historical development of the town. The history covers the earliest evidence for human activity through to the establishment of the town in the medieval period and its development up to the present day. Section two covers the characterisation of the town through the creation of Historic Urban Character Areas (HUCAs). The historical significance of each HUCA is assessed and recommendations are put forward.
Twenty-seven Historic Urban Character Areas (HUCAs) have been identified in the project for Burton-upon-Trent.
A final report (SST590) summarises the overall findings of the survey, sets out the legislative and planning framework within which the documents can be used and sets out research priorities for Staffordshire's historic urban centres.
The final report also includes an appendix which provides definitions of the character types identified and used in the project.
